Tulum, also known as the Royal Mayan city, is located on top of some cliffs overlooking the Mexican Caribbean sea. The Riviera Maya is one of the most famous tourists regions in Mexico; located only 78 miles (131 kilometers) south of Cancun, and two hours trip from Chichen-Itza one of the recently named New Seven Wonders of the World. Playa del Carmen is only 30 minutes distance. The walled city of Tulum was the first mayan community recorded to have been sighted by the Spanish explorers in the beginning of the 16th century.
